For the love of college sports...

Is it necessary to play fall sports with a conference-only season?

visit homepage A little over a week ago, the Big Ten made the decision to move to conference-only schedules for the upcoming fall sports due to the Coronavirus pandemic. 24 hours later, the Pac-12 followed in their footsteps and also transferred over to a conference-only schedule for the college football season.

We all expected the SEC, ACC, and Big 12 to “follow the leader” and go right along with them. The interesting thing is, that wasn’t the case. These three conferences remain to have no announcement on whether they are going to play out-of-conference games this fall as officials say they are expected to update us around the end of July.

But is it really worth it to cancel these non-conference match-ups just to minimize exposure for only four games? Are a few more games really going to affect the spread of Covid-19? Generally speaking, it isn’t that big of a difference. Personally, I don’t see the reason in this move. I would love the see the remaining three conferences to stick with the original plan and go up against non-conference teams this year. What do y’all think? Leave a comment down below!!

To wrap it up, we await anxiously to hear the final decision from SEC, ACC, and Big 12 as this is a huge part of what our future holds in terms of a somewhat regular college football season.

It makes no sense to cancel ‘some games.’ You either play them all or none at all. The delay of 3 weeks for some teams to start their season doesn’t seem to offer any logistical advantages to player safety other than just being at a later date. Silly. Let them play!

I’m just hoping and praying we have some kind of college football in the fall. I’ll be okay with any kind of normal – whatever that is. 🏈
